1. when's the ship date for the contour GPS?
2. when's the earliest the dev team going to add a simple gps out export. need this or so many people will not buy one...it's easier to just postprocess w/external gps.

1 - VERY soon.. and not the "oh, some time in the future maybe something will show up" but "the factory is cranking them out and we're putting them into boxes and the postman is on the way to pick them up"
Seriously though, I can't give an exact date (I'm just a lowly Software Developer!) but very, very soon.
2 - GPS export is on our list of "REALLY nice to have" features that I believe we're looking to add in the next couple months - the only barrier at the moment is finding the time.

Hi Kerri.
"REALLY nice to have" isn't a commitment that the feature will be added. I think what the potential buyers would like is a firm commitment that the export feature will exist in a future software release. A commitment on your end would be good enough for me to go ahead and purchase the product. Eventually I would want (or need) GPS data and without a firm YES on Contour's part I'll either wait on the purchase or find another solution.
I also want to thank you and all the other software developers at Contour for your hard work toward making the Contour line the best POVs out there.
cheers,

Maybe it will be possible to extract GPS data with catalog software, such as CDFinder and CatDV--I already use these to read iPhone geotagged movies. Will have to wait and see once we get sample movies?

The GPS data is stored in the subtitle part of the .mov file as far as I can tell. Now if only we knew the format and all that wouldn't that be nice eh?
Clever subtitle attribute use though. -

Take a look at this post:

ContourGPS users,
DashWare can now extract ContourGPS data from ContourGPS video files, and its price has been slashed down to $49.99! With DashWare you can analyze your data, compare it with friends, and overlay pretty much anything you want directly onto your video file.
Have a look at our website for sample videos:

I think DashWare is a great companion product to ContourGPS, so I hope the admins on here don't mind me mentioning our product. We already have a lot of ContourHD customers using DashWare.
Thanks,

Has anyone gotten DashWare to work correctly? I tried it, and the speed it is reporting makes no sense at all. Don't know if it's a Dashware or Contour problem.

Hi Juan,
Have you tried DashWare again recently? We used to calculate our own speed based on the GPS position movement, but we now use the ContourGPS speed directly.
Thanks,

It seems that the ContourGPS NMEA output ( that is viewable from Dashware ) shows the time in quarters of a second, starting from the moment the cam is switched on.
For example -
0
0.25
0.5
0.75
1
1.25
1.5
etc, etc etc.
Is it possible to show the actual time, to the nearest 100th of a second ?
For example
12:24:20.001 AM
12:24:20.002 AM
12:24:20.003 AM
12:24:20.004 AM
I need this to syn with other cams and other GPS driven dataqloggers ? -

Using CGPS TraktXtracT tool i have now seen the format seems to be :-
VIDEO; DATE; TIME; LAT; LON; ALT_MTRS; SPEED_KMTRS; DIRECTION
00:00:00.00; 09/18/11; 10:23:56.50; 25 37.88632'S; 028 20.89850'E; 1215.1; 001;47.38
My question is still - can we get it to the nearest 100 th of a second ? -
