How can I play my ContourGPS videos while observing the corresponding GPS data?

1The GPS position, elevation, and speed data collected with your videos can be viewed by uploading and playing your videos on the Contour.com user community site (http://www.contour.com/stories). Additionally, the Contour Storyteller software included with the ContourGPS camera will display your GPS position data, but does not currently display elevation and speed data. -

Some elaboration would be helpful. HOW do I view the GPS data? It isn't just coming up automatically.

Hi Rick.S,
When you play the file in Storyteller, hit the "map view" button and you should see a map view of the footage. This will only show the map view at the moment, if you upload to the site then the site will display the speed and altitude.
Cheers

I want see my speed and gps data.but how can i see that.
The user manual seas you can turn it on or of with the program but the program does not reccognize the camera?!-
Hi speedy000001,
Are you using Storyteller? As EasyEdit will not recognize the camera. If you use Storyteller you should be able to use the configure camera button to turn the GPS on and off in the video settings part. I hope that helps you out?

ContourGPS users,
DashWare can now extract ContourGPS data from ContourGPS video files, and its price has been slashed down to $49.99! With DashWare you can analyze your data right on your PC, compare it with friends, and overlay pretty much anything you want directly onto your video file.
Have a look at our website for more information:
http://www.dashware.net
I think DashWare is a great companion product to ContourGPS, so I hope the admins on here don't mind me mentioning our product. We already have a lot of ContourHD customers using DashWare.
Thanks,

SWEET! Thanks Rolf, that's going to be super helpful. Storyteller is not my friend.

my mapview comes up beside storyteller however it locates me in the Atlantic off the coast of Africa, a nice place to be sure however last time I checked I was filming in Toronto Ontario Canada. I don't think the margin for error in GPS is quiet that large. Is my GPS in the camera working? It is turned on in the settings.

have reset the gps by holding down the hidden button and all is well.

For those of us with slow connections to the Internet the GPS feature seems like a waste of money or requires more clams to get software that supports it.
Not being able to view 60fps on the upload with GPS data is another dissapointment. Any plans to incorporate ALL the GPS data into the stand-alone app, i.e. Story Teller? -
-
I withdraw my comment noticing that GPS data CAN be viewed via the local story teller app without uploading. I can see both speed and elevation so not sure why the contention was that it could not. Good job Contour, this app is amazing!

But it DOES display speed and elevation in the info window without needing to upload. Good stuff!

I believe, from reading through these forum posts, that the software has been updated.
In the past, the GPS map feed did not show speed and elevation during playback. That is, unless the video was uploaded to the website first.
Now, however, the Storyteller program shows all of the GPS info without uploading to the site. I know mine does, but I just got it this week. June-2011.
I don't know if the software is what has been updated, or the camera itself. Hopefully it's a software thing, and all of the GPS owners now have this feature available to them.- view 1 more comment

Hi Dave is there any plans to have the UTM data displayed as well - maybe as an option? of course what datum to use ? WGS84. or old fashion Lat and Long - Rosco4WD driver

Hi Rosco,
As far as i am aware this isn't on the cards, however as you ask i will put it forward for consideration as an option.

I just purchased the Coutour+ camera and do not see Lat and Long information on the video map (previous comment was 3 months ago). I purchased this camera to be used in for spotting ground positions in an aircraft as I am flying. I need this information for later use. How do I display Lat, Long and time on a paused spot in my video?

Try exporting your GPS data & then loading it into Google Earth
You can use GPSExtract here:

hiflier.x,
Way cool GPS data extractor tool! I did noticed that the data export for Lon and Lat is in decimal degrees and stays that way even in Google earth even though my display units are "Degrees, decimal minutes" for all three of the GPS extract options. I need the coordinates to be "Degrees, decimal minutes" because older GPS navigation units in some aircraft only accept coordinates in "Degrees, decimal minutes". Can you add an option for unit type to your tool?
Also, is there an initialization file that I can modify to set the defaults so I don't forget to change a setting I always need to but is not the tools default setting?
Still love this though!!!
