Using the Bluetooth Feature
The ContourGPS is equipped with a Bluetooth module that allows your mobile device to act as a viewfinder for your camera when it is in standby mode. This means that you can be sure your camera is lined up to capture the shot before you start recording. In addition, the mobile app will give you access to the camera's configuration setting so you can change things like resolution, exposure, and mic gain without having to plug the camera back in to a computer.
The Bluetooth feature will only let you connect to certain iOS devices at this time. During spring of 2011, we plan to release an app for Android mobile devices. You cannot use the Bluetooth to connect to other devices.
Connect View is specifically made for: iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 (both AT&T and Verizon), iPod touch (3rd and 4th generations). Your device must be running iOS 4.2.1 in order to install and run the Contour Camera app.
Configure the Camera
In order activate the Bluetooth module in your ContourGPS, your camera will need to be running firmware version 1.12 or later. To verify the firmware version of your camera, launch StoryTeller on your computer and connect your camera with the supplied USB cable. In StoryTeller, go to Tools -> Configure Camera and then change to the Camera tab. You will find the firmware version number of your camera listed there. StoryTeller should prompt you to update your camera firmware if it is not up to date.
You must connect your camera at least once to StoryTeller so that it can assign a unique Bluetooth ID to the camera's Bluetooth module. The computer running StoryTeller MUST be connected to the Internet during this process. The assignment of the ID will take place automatically after the camera is connected to StoryTeller for 2-3 minutes. You can verify the ID file was copied to you camera by looking for a file entitled "bt.adr" in the root directory of the camera's SD card.
ConnectView Card
If you are going to connect your camera to one of the supported Apple iOS devices, you will also need to install a ConnectView card in your camera. Visit http://contour.com/software/mobile/ios and click "Locate A Dealer" to find a reseller near you that carries the ConnectView card.
To install the ConnectView Card, power off the camera and remove the battery. Immediately to the left of the battery is a small black plastic card [O]. This plastic card is a placeholder that you can remove and set aside. Insert the ConnectView card in to the slot vacated by the placeholder. The contacts on the card should face toward the microSD card and the Contour logo should face toward the battery slot.
IMPORTANT: The end of the card should be FLUSH with the back of the camera. Do NOT push the card past this point. Pushing the card past being flush with the back of the camera will result in the card's contact points not being lined up correctly and the Bluetooth feature will not work. The camera will triple beep if the card is inserted too far when pairing is attempted.

Prepare You Device
Next you will need to install the Contour Camera app on your iOS device. The app is a free download from the iTunes Music Store. You can search for "Contour Camera" or you can go directly to this link: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/contou...
After the app is installed, go in to the Settings of your device and turn on Bluetooth.
Connecting the Camera to Your Device
You should now have the firmware and ConnectView card installed on your camera and the app installed on your device with the Bluetooth active. You are now ready to connect the camera and your device. Turn on your camera then press and hold the the Update button [N] for five seconds. When you release the Update button, the forward status light [A] will start blinking blue. This indicates that it is discoverable by your device over Bluetooth. In the event you need to re-establish pairing with your device, the camera only requires a quick press of the Update button to re-initiate the pairing – Do Not hold the Update button down.
Once your camera is listed as a discovered items over Bluetooth, you can select it to pair it with your device. After the two are paired, launch the Contour Camera app.
Pairing Fails/Camera Triple Beeps
If your camera triple beeps and the forward status light [A] remains or returns to green after holding down the Update button, pairing did not take place. The two causes associated with the triple beep is the Connect View card is inserted too far into the camera and not flush with the back of the camera or the camera's Bluetooth module does not have have a valid Bluetooth ID. You will have to reseat the Connect View card so it is flush with the back of the camera and/or obtain a Bluetooth ID for your camera via StoryTeller via the instructions outlined above under "Configure the Camera".
Using the App
Once the app and the camera are connected the main screen of the app will become a viewfinder, displaying images from the camera's imaging processor. The refresh rate is between 3 and 5 frames per second and the solution will not be reflective of what the camera actually shoots. Because of Bluetooth bandwidth limitations, the images will be transmitted in 240p format, regardless of the camera's configuration settings. However, this stream should be more than adequate to allow you to align your camera angle and verifying configuration settings for the conditions under which you will be shooting video.
In the upper right hand corner of the app is a "Setting" button that will allow you to change many of the camera's settings without having to connect the camera to a computer. Simply adjust any of the settings you wish for each of the two positions of the Format Switch. When you are done press the "Camera" button in the upper left corner to return to the viewfinder mode. Your changes will take effect right away. This is especially handy for adjusting to different lighting conditions.
Battery Life
Because Bluetooth is a wireless radio device, extended use will drain the battery life of both your camera and your mobile device faster than without it. If you intend to use this feature a lot, plan ahead by having extra batteries and chargers available. Note the Bluetooth module is powered down once the camera starts recording to conserve battery power.
Range
The range of the Bluetooth connection is up to 30 feet.
Recording
Once you start the camera recording, the Bluetooth connection will automatically terminate and the Bluetooth module in the camera will power down. This is designed to conserve the camera's battery power. To re-initiate a Bluetooth connection with your camera once it is back in standby mode, press and hold down the Update button for 5 seconds.
Dropped Connections:
The current Bluetooth connection will drop between 15 seconds and 2 minutes. We are working with Apple to better understand why iOS devices do this. If your connection drops prematurely, you can re-pair the devices buy quickly pressing and releasing the Update button. In some situations pairing cannot be re-established. In these cases, you may need to remove the battery from the ContourGPS or reboot the Apple device.

Great and detailed response. I can't tell you how frustrated I am with the Bluetooth dropping out after 15 seconds. It is useless. And I am returning the Contour GPS
-
Hi bob1dp,
As I said on the thread you started , I am sorry that you feel this way , but we are investigating the cause of the drop out you are experiencing and hope to have a better response for you all soon.
Cheers,
Dave. -

-
-
Good description. Honestly, I do want the dropout fixed, but 15 seconds is enough for me to see if my angle is bogus or not, then I record so don't care about BT. It would be great to have more time, but I can still use it like this.
-
-
Are there any other uses or functions built into the bluetooth module right now? I mean can I use it to transfer data to my computer like I did with my old Motorola RAZR? Does this require the connect card as well?
-
Hi hrdrider2002,
The Connect View Card is only required for iOS devices, other devices will not require it. We are investigating all avenues as to what we can achieve with the BT connection, it will be a matter of seeing what we can pull out of the hat.
Cheers,
Dave. -
-
I too would find the camera far more useful if I could start and stop shooting through the BT connection, rather than have it quit because I'm shooting.

I've noticed that on the ContourGPS that I have the Connect View card installed, the bluetooth itself turns off after 15 to 30 seconds. However, if I immediately turn the bluetooth back on at the camera, it will seem to stay on and paired to my iPhone 4 for as long as the battery lasts or until I start recording on the camera.
Allen -
-
I like the app and you're right, even though it drops off after 15 seconds, it is enough time to see if my mounting is right. I also was able to pair it up with my blackberry, but with no app, doesn't do much. Any intention for a Contour Blackberry app?
-
-
Does the bluetooth app also work on the iPad? Got one running on iOS 4.3
-
-
I have mine hooked up to an ipad. Maybe related or not, but I am only able to use a connection once. I must turn off the bluetooth (blue lit) with a battery removal in order to establish a connection after shooting video.
-
Hi pbarrow,
Once you have recorded, you should be able to give the hidden button a quick press and the blue light will flash and try to connect to the paired device. Is this not happening for you this way? The blue tooth connection should be severed when you start recording, is this happening? Let me know .
Cheers,
Dave. -
-
-
-
-
Yes, the bluetooth connection is severed when I start recording. I noticed that there is sometimes a significant delay (10-15 seconds) between start Record and actual recording (light turns red). I am able to reestablish a bluetooth after recording, but it is not consistent. Works once or twice and then crashes, can't find message on ios, try again etc. A reboot (remove battery) makes everything work again.

I had some trouble connecting my iPhone4 to the ContourGPS. I eventually succeeded by (a) rebooting the iPhone ; (b) removing the battery from the ContourGPS and reinserting it after 10 seconds; and (c) pressing the hidden update button on the ContourGPS - this caused the ContourGPS to appear in the list of bluetooth devices on the iphone; (d) forcing the ContourGPS to pair with the iPhone by tapping on the ContourGPS listing in the iPhone's bluetooth list; the finally (e) running the contour app.
The image on the iPhone seems stable (no dropouts for 5 minutes or more). Quality of the image is not great but adequate for framing and positioning the ContourGPS.
The image on the iPhone seems to drop for half a second every minute or so.-
Hello. I'm very frustrated. I have installed the connect view card and followed your online instructions to the letter, I still cannot connect my camera to my iphone 4.
I press and hold the hidden button and initiate the firmware install, I get the suggested two Memory and Battery LEDs on the rear of the camera flashing twice but no matter how long I hold the hidden button, the LEDs do not alternately flash red. The LED at the front of the camera does flash blue but the contour app on my iPhone cannot find the camera.
Please help!!! -
-
Hi steveshelley,
If you open the contents of the card on your computer , do you have a btadr file listed there? Also when you are attempting the FW update, are you using the supplied 2G card, if not try that card instead of the one you are currently using in the process. Let me know what you find.
Cheers,

i have got my iPhone and my contourGPS to pair but the Bluetooth drops out before the app can find the contourGPS.
i have found that the firmware version 1.12 will link to my iPhone and will live stream but then crashed my phone and my contourGPS and will not relink at all. firmware version 1.13 seems to pair better but it drops the Bluetooth connection before the app see the contourGPS.
this is a really frustrating problem which lets down a really good little camera.
i dont really see the point of the contour GPS i might as well spent my money on the cheaper contour HD.- view 8 more comments

I am confused.
Does the Contour GPS come ready to connect to the iPhone 3GS once I download the Contour App on my phone, or do I need to purchase a card?
Thanks- view 1 more comment

Yes. That's what I thought.
Thanks for the reply -

Hello, I think you guys need to clarify this a bit better in the website. The initial impression I got was that if you have the ContourGPS and the iPhone you are good to go. Not that you also need this Connect View Card.
Thanks

HI steve enomoto,
The news is that it will be out in the summer, due to some technical challenges the team had to put it back whilst they were being sorted out. I hope that helps.

I have tried every suggested technique to get this to work. Sometimes works for 2-3 seconds then will not reconnect. I was looking forward to firmware update. No change. I don't know who thought this was ready for prime-time but it is a definite failure. Great little camera marred by this ridiculous "feature". You owe us all an apology and should pull this "bluetooth" off the market until it really is usable.
-
Hi ultrarider ,
One thing that has come to light recently is that if the iOS device is connected to a wifi network, this interferes with the bluetooth some how, try disabling the wifi if this is the case and see how that fairs for you. The engineers are working on this at the moment. Let me know how you get on.

How do I know if the BT card is defective. She did well, but since the FW 1.15 I had to make a new referral every time and today I still have 3 beeps
-

I Hope you solve the problems with Bluetooth fast it's not working the way it's supposed to! I Have to make IOS forget the device, remove the battery and then re-pair.. Not so cool when 2 minutes before a race!
-
-
@ Wilfreddebeuker, thank you but what you say I done it since the FW 1.15. Today is different, it is like i have no BT cart at all. 3 beeps whatever I do
1-Connect View card is inserted too far into the camera= ok
2-The camera's Bluetooth module does not have have a valid Bluetooth ID= ok
Be cool with my english, I am french from Quebec lol-
FJrider, mine does the same thing. Bluetooth worked fine before but after the 1.15 upgrade and 1.16 beta it stopped working. I'm expecting 1.16 release to fix this.

it seems like telling your iphone to "forget the device" and then re-pairing gets it going again. still needs to be fixed tho...
-

I can confirm that what the user tahoefilms said in the previous post is what I also need to do to get it running again.
I'm running Contour+ with iPhone 3G iOS 4.2.1
Hope this helps -

It also helps to find a sacred burial ground, hold camera in left hand. Extend hand upward towards the ancient Inca Gods, while howling at the moon. I believe that is the only thing that has worked for anyone!

I just got my camara and also have been having problems with connecting the bt with my iphone. I some how managed to conect it a total of two whole times but now everythime I try ro connect it just beeps at me three times. I have adjusted the card in and out every possible way and no luck. I have the bt file on my memary card. Ive also tried deleting the bt file and getting it again when I reconnect. I get the file again but still will not connect. Just beeps at me three times. Dont know what else to do. Do I send back the card or do I send back the camera? Whats screwing up? Wouldnt it have been good to engineer the card so that it stops going into the camera once it is in proper possition? wow!
-
-
spent a lot of time messing around with it and the only way I can get it to connect is if I delete gps device off of my phone and then reconect as if it is my first time by holding button down for 5 sec. then I have to search again for device then when it finds it i can tell it to connected. Once connected it stays connected until connection breaks cause of didstance or power or start recording. once connection is broken and if I hit bt button once just beeps three times and have to do whole proccess over again.

This is the answer that works, had same problem and this fixed it.

Hi Guys,
We have recently found out that if another Bluetooth device is active nearby , that it can hijack the signal so that the camera and iOS device refuse to pair. I found that the bluetooth link on my PC was the culprit and upon disabling the transmitter that my iPhone once again connected without issue. It may be worth while seeing if this is the case with your connection issues. The engineers are looking into why this is happening.
Cheers,
Dave. -

Hi,
Could you please tell me if a new version of connectview will be available soon? If yes, Will it more compatible with the Ipad? Actually it's working but the video is very bad. It's not a 1080p or 720p and I have to double the application to get it in full screen.
What is the roadmap?-
Hi Gbe77at,
We don't support iPad usage with the Contour camera App and the Connectview card and it isn't on the roadmap just yet. This is something that we will obviously be looking at in the future at some point.
Cheers,
Dave. -

Hi,
Thank you for your quick answer. I am ready to test any firmware and version of connectview if it can help you to improve your tools. If you can send me the source of connectview I may help you to improve the software on ipad too. -
-
OK, so I have Firmware version 1.15 and an iPhone 3GS with the latest firmware from apple. The BT file loaded. The connectview card is tried in every possible position. The front led (red/green) flashes blue once, and then always 3 beeps - except once. So, sometimes works sometimes doesnt. To be frank this issue has been around for 3 months, and the engineers cant or wont fix it. You are telling me I have to fit a card in a precise location to get it (perhaps) to work, then I cycle over rough terrain, where the card moves slightly and causes the issue to re-appear....Does Contour as a company think this is a viable feature for their product? The camera is great, you spoilt it with a feature that is not ready - effectively using customers as your testers - what happened to your quality control? Come on guys, your product is not cheap, and it lacked a feature which you seem to have rushed through to address market needs severely impacting your custopmer credibility. How much time do you want to fix this? No postings in 9 days, so I am a mug for assuming you would address the issue promptly.

My iphone / contour gps is cured with new firm wear!!!!!!! I'm not sure how to watch video's that i have recorded on my iphone but I can edit settings adjust camera before riding and it will now re-connect with just one touch of the button!!!

I upgraded to 1.16, and got BT to work. w00t!
Oh, wait. It's a "camera". It's supposed to take photos.
It doesn't work for photos any more. Just keeps flashing like it expects to update the firmware again.
Fortunately, I figured out how to retrieve back versions of the firmware, and downgraded back to 1.15. So now I can't use BT but at least get the photos. Good thing, considering I'm shooting Roger Waters tonight!
What really sucks is, the Blue Tooth feature is what made me change my mind and buy the Contour instead of the GoPro.-

I got the three beeps because I had no bt.adr file in my card. I had installed the new firmware just right before, but StoryTeller didn't created the file.
I needed to close and reopen storyteller so it could generate bt.adr file.
After that, everything gone fine. -

I wanted to cast my vote for iPad support. I don't know if I will get an iPhone anytime soon so I'm using an iPad from my job. Some of the tips here have helped me establish a connection, but it doesn't last long and is hardly worth the trouble. Some of the issues iPhone users have had sound the same so I hope you can make some progress on it.

With the latest firmware, I'm finding the ipad works just fine with the existing software. Yes, it would be nicer if designed to take advantage of the ipad's screen, but that's just the obvious. Functionally, it seems to work just fine.
I previously had problems with the latest firmware. Apparently it is possible to have a faulty install. I managed to re-do that install several times until all the light-flashes and beeps happened at the right times, and then I got the positive results others have reported. Having got that, the entire camera is functioning with far more reliability. -
-
I did firmware upgrade following the instructions however I cannot find a Bluetooth "button" to "hold down" per the instructions. I go to the bluetooth settings in my phone to scan for devices and it does not see my camera. I'm using the android app on an HTC Thunderbolt.
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
How do I establish a Bluetooth connection with my Contour+ camera?.-
Hi Sollie669,
The Bluetooth button is in front of the record slider and is under the plastic. If you press the plastic just in front of the slider you will feel an indentation, its in the indentation. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

The battery indicator shows a green battery, so som connnection is obteined.....

Had similar problem. StoryTeller was only updating to 1.16 (I came from 1.12, been waiting out of fear)
I resorted to a manual install of 1.17 and 'voila!'. Paired with my Epic 4g on first try (Samsung Galaxy S) and the new app seems to work great.
Thanks Contour! -

Hi Mike A.
Well thats looking ok. I assume that your Galaxy is running 2.2.1 or higher, if so reboot the camera and also your Galaxy and that should help.

Worked first try for me.
One thing took a little while to figure out.
When you get the "paired but not connected", hit the back button on the phone..that takes you to the monitor screen.
Once you begin filming the bluetooth goes off and you have to reconnect.
Good going folks!-
The Droid ap that is.

FWIW, I have just now connected my ContourGPS to my Samsung Galaxy S for the first time. I have NOT upgraded to Android 2.2 (I'm using Android 2.1-update 1) and while the BlueTooth status reads "Paired but not connected", I simply hit the back button on the phone which took me to the Contour App screen and I have had an uniterrupted connection for several minutes now (no 15 second drop).
I even tried to mess it up by navigating away from the app and returning to it. I changed settings on each position, returned settings to default, etc etc... nothing interrupted the bluetooth connection until i manually disconnected it.
...just a little FYI from my experiment. It seems that Android 2.1 is more stable with the bluetooth connection than what it appears to be with everyone using 2.2? -
-
Well it has been 4 months since I tried to connect my Contour GPS to my i-phone. I may give it a try again. Do I need to install any new updates?

Hi bob1dp,
You will benefit from updating the firmware as there are some improvements that have been introduced in them. Let me know how you get on.

Hi Micb,
Theoretically that should work then! Can you run through with me the exact sequence you follow to pair the devices and where it stops? Also could you tell me the carrier that you are using, as we have seen some carriers devices not work with the App and camera as expected.

I'm having problems pairing my ContourGPS v1.17 with HTC Hero v2.1 Update 1 (this is supposedly the most up to date version I can use). The phone can see the camera and pairs with it, but when going back to the app to connect with the camera I get the 'Unable to Connect' with retry/device list options. The camera is displayed in the device list but still won't connect. I have tried restarting both, unpairing and repairing, but still nothing. Any help please?

Just got a bluetooth card for my GPS unit. When i press the secret button nothing happens. GPS light either stays solid green or turns off completely. Any ideas?
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Bluetooth connection.-
Hi HighCadence,
Connect the camera to your computer and open Storyteller, leave them connected fro a few minutes and then eject the camera, it should now have a Bluetooth address on it and the blue light should come on. Let me know how you get on.

Had the exact same problem. No matter what i did - always 3 beeps, green light and no "bt_adr" on the SD-card.
Solution was to shot down Story Teller, and restart it. Had to do that a couple of times, also reset the time/clock, second time i reset the clock i saw the bt_adr file appear in roo of SD-card.
Happy days :) -

This is just not working for me at all... I bought the ContourGPS and the Bluetooth card that I've installed in the unit as directed (mounted flush). I have an iPhone 3GS with the latest IOS on it.
Each time I try and pair the two it will show up on my iPhone and it will show connected for maybe 1-2 seconds then say disconnected. I've power cycled everything and rebooted my phone from a simple power off to a Hard Reset and each time I try and reestablish the pairing by pressing the hidden button for a second I get the triple beep.
I've upgraded the firmware of the camera to 1.7, I deleted the bt file off the card and made sure that I got another one after connecting the camera through the software. At no time have I ever gotten the iPhone App to recognize the camera.
Just for kicks I also tried to pair this on my iPad and get the same exact results.
Suggestions before I throw this out a window?- view 1 more comment

I e-mailed support and I am still waiting for a reply, I deleted the bt file from the card a few times but I don't know if that gives me the same or a different BT address or not. I really need to get this resolved today if at all possible, I got this for a big motorcycle ride that starts tomorrow =(

It doesn't take a developer this long to do a firmware update for Bluetooth connections... If you don't have time, outsource it!
Keep us updated for an eta please -

I placed a call to Support and got a call back a few hours later, the person I dealt with was very knowledgeable but was unable to resolve my issue no matter what we tried so they suggested that I get the unit swapped out for another one. The one I have was less than 48 hours old so I don't know if I should get a new one from Amazon or from Contour. Either way I am going to be without something I bought for upwards of a week =(
-
Hi funhouse69,
If you are based in the USA and purchased the camera from Amazon in the USA, then getting a replacement from support will be the best option, as this means that we can get the camera back quicker and find out what went wrong with it. If you bought through Amazon anywhere else in the world then you will be best to deal through them for the replacement . Let me know how you get on.

Hi Shaun,
Yes, that solves it! Can you contact support via the form on the support home page and they will be able to assist you form there. As the camera doesn't have a CUID then storyteller cannot install a bluetooth address. So long as the camera has a GPS lock then the pictures will have the GPS location stored on them, you can use Google earth to reveal this. I hope that helps.
Cheers,
Dave. -

thanks for these instructions, I was able to get it to work by following them. While I am glad that I could get it to work, I would like to express my disappointment that this many hoops need to be jumped through to get it working. We're renting out the camera and it makes us look unprofessional to have to explain all these steps to customers.
Hope this can be improved in the future. -

All the post Ive read so far keep stating that the connect view card is only needed for IOS devises, not android, Is this correct. I just purchased a ContourGPS, and it has what appears to just be a plastic placeholder in the slot mentioned. I pulled it out after reading the posts about 3 beeps when the contact don't aligned and it appears that there are no contact on this placeholder. This obviously seems a bit odd, does the piece need to be removed for the Bluetooth to become active on the GPS model if your not using an iphone, or am I simply missing a required accessory that I have to obtain in order for the Bluetooth to work at all.
If the latter is the case I suggest seriously updating your admin posts as well as the model comparison charts and any other locatio0n that states the connect view card is only for iOS devices, and clearly state its required for both and is not included with the camera at all.-
Hi djmgyx,
The camera does not need the Connect view card to operate on the Android bluetooth link, all that is required is the latest firmware of V1.17. The piece of plastic in the Connect view slot is a packing piece to protect the contacts in the camera from foreign debris when the door is opened in the field. As you have an Android device that you wish to connect to all that you need to do is the following. Upgrade the firmware on the camera, download the App to your device from here https://market.android.com/details?id... and then connect the camera to storyteller for a few minutes and it will install a Bluetooth address on the camera. Thats it , no Connect view card , no extra purchase. I hope that helps you out. If you need any further help just let me know .

I just bought this camera and it had a very old firmware version 1.09 which I had to upgrade twice. These cameras should have recent firmware already installed!
Anyway, After connecting the camera to storyteller I still don't get a bluetooth ID file in the root dir and therefore bluetooth connection doesn't work. How do I get this file?-
Hi Cobe Hunter,
The reason your camera had 1.09 on it will be due to it being sat on the suppliers shelf for a few months, hence the need for the updates. Can you open the FW_RTC file on the card ,if you are on a PC it may be hidden, then look at the CUID and BT_MAC lines and tell me what they read.
Cheers,
Dave. -

CAMERA INFO
CUID:1101010200753

OK, well part of the equation is there. Can you contact support via the form on the support home page and they will be able to generate a BT address for you. Let me know how you get on.

I got the same problem that bluetooth doesn't work and drop off in 15sec, I connected the gear to storyteller, fail to get a bluetooth ID automatically(can't find a BT.adr at the SD), SOS!!!

Hi shellwayshellway,
Can you tell me what the CUID line and the BT_MAC line read on the card? Also can you tell me what device you are trying to connect to and the firmware that the camera has on it.

I don't where to find the CUID and BT_MAC, I didn't any file on SD card leading to this , except the video records others are AGPS.ALP and LastAssistNowFileUpdate.txt, firm for camera was updated to 1.33 successfully, mobile device is samsung GT-i9100, android version 2.3, SD card is aftermarket and formatted correctly, class4, after connect with storyteller it came with a txt file rec_err_log says card speed low, i am trying to buy a class 10 card and test it again
Would you mind give a little more detail instrcution of getting bluetooth ID assigned by the system??
Thanks, -
-
Now I re-formatted the SD, camera's firmware is OK, checked the connectview card at the proper position again, connected the storyteller, my series no is 12001308 and had registered to the official site, can this be fixed by manual if the system doesn't work automatically?
I can't wait that my travelling plan is on in a couple of days, i need fix it before I get on road.
Thanks -
-
When I connect it with storyteller, it comes two documents automatically add to the SD root AGPS.ALP and lastAssitNowFileUpdate.txt, but still no bt_adr shows up
Can this be assigned manually?-
Hi shellwayshellway,
You will find the BT_MAC and CUID in the FW_RTC file on the card, if you cannot see this then you will have to go to the 'files and folder options' , which can be found in 'system' and check the box next to 'show hidden files and folders' . Once you have saved this setting , then you will be able to see the FW_RTC file. You should get a bluetooth address assigned to the camera by simply connecting the camera and opening storyteller. Let me know what you find in the FW_RTC file and we will see whats needed to do from there.
Cheers,
Dave. -

Hi David,
I found the data by following your guidance, appreciate
CUID:1122010101076
BT_MAC:0007804519be
on the card through the FW_RTC file
I also connect to storyteller but seems nothing changed than before, still can't see the BT_adr file on card.
Waiting for your help
Thanks,-
Hi shellwayshellway,
Well you have a Bluetooth address there , the BT_MAC is the address, so you should be able to connect to your device without a problem. You will need to press and hold the BT button for 5 seconds to initiate the pairing mode. Make sure that other Bluetooth devices, such as keyboards headsets etc.. , are turned off when you try as they can interfere with the process. Let me know how you get on.
Cheers,

Well, I don't know how to say, I turned on my cellphone bluetooth and pair with the camera in list, when I turn on the app and also the camera blue light flashing, but the app keeps at linking process and when the camera light turns to green, the phone shows following message: unable to connect, turn on the camera's bluetooth to discovery mode......, I retried a couple of times, always in this bad loop, I can't figure out what's going on, any suggestion?
No other devices interfere-
Hi shellwayshellway,
When you press the bluetooth button on the camera for 5 seconds and release, is the light flashing Blue?

Hi David,
Yes it flashes blue
I have to say it is more like a lucky draw to connect it successfully, I tried a couple of times and suddenly there came the true link that I can see the output and setup at my cellphone, then about 10 sec after it came back to the dead loop again, however the blue light of camera became steady(kept BT transfer?), but the screen shows retry message again.
What is the real problem??
Thanks,-
Hi shellwayshellway,
Next time that happens can you go to the home screen and then back into teh App and see if that does anything for it. We are trying to replicate this in house so we can find a solution for you.

Hi David,
Sorry I was on road these a couple days, I can only access to web today when I got into hotel, I made everything reboot including my cellphone and the gear and it happened successful that connecting between the two and becomes stable after that. Thanks for help so much.
I got another small issue that I'm still trying to fix but like to hear from you for advising, as I said before I bought a new card Sandisk class 6 32G, I loaded it up to the gear and tried to format it, I pressed the hole for over 1 minute it still came to red and no beep afterall, usually format 8G only takes few seconds and it is successful, what's your opinion? the card was fully examined by the tool you suggested to me, speed comes to 10M up
Thanks,-
Hi shellwayshellway,
Try formatting the card with this program first http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/forma... i have found that if a card won't behave in the camera then a format with this will do it as it formats it in the correct way. Let me know how you get on.

Shon-
Hi Shon,
Yes the iPad is an iOS device , however the App was written for iPhones and iPod Touch devices, the resolutions between those and iPads are different, thus we don't officially support the connection to an iPad. You may well find that you can utilise the App on the iPad though , as a fair few customers have found that they will connect. I hope that helps clear it up for you.

After six months of exclusively using my GoPros I am back trying to get my Contours to work. I removed and reinstalled all the software being careful to install earlier versions before moving to next version. I followed the directions to the letter. I was able to connect with my I Phone G3 about 2% of the time. What is weird is when I hooked by I-Pad 2 up to it I was able to connect right away the first couple of times and then it stopped. The Bluetooth says we are connected but when I try to open the Contour App it says the device is turned off which it is not and then the Blue Tooth disconnects.
-
Hi bob1dp,
Have you got any other bluetooth devices operating in area, as these can interfere with the connection. You may find that disabling the WiFi connection it will help towards gaining and retaining a link. Do be aware that we don't support the connection to the iPad range as the App was designed for the iPhone and iPod touch only. Let me know how you get on.

This is the best looking camera on the market - I think that's about it.
I could through the thing at the wall at the moment.
I now have two - I bought the standard version, due to seller "not knowing much about it" I took a chance. Got it and found there is no way to see the image - I had assumed (wrongly, obviously) that video would be available via the mini USB - standard on every single moving picture camera I have owned or used.
Realizing that was not about to happen - I found the GPS version was said to output video - OK GREAT - then I bought one (no I'm not wealthy - i'm stupid - there I admit it - it's my fault - I should have bought the go pro in the first place, maybe still will)
So now I have a GPS version - but then had to spend even more money on a bluetooth card (I must have sucker stamped on my head)
So I have that (BT card) installed, I have an iPhone 4, I have the "free" software (storyteller) - not really free is it? Little Snitch tells me it want's to talk to both Google and Amazon's info gathering ("lead services" for target ads) otherwise IT WON'T RUN!
OK so i've allowed the (intrusive) connections, I finally got storyteller to allow me access to configure camera (many times prior it kept offering the "register camera" option only)
IT DOESN'T WORK - there is absolutely nothing about bluetooth in "config camera"
all I have is three tabs Camera - "global settings"
Position 1 and position 2
Under "Help" - and I REALLY NEED SOME - check for updates - I get pop up box "update check failed" - check application download page???
I have the iPhone app installed, I have a MacPro running OSX 10.6.8
I have the BT card carefully installed per this article...
I hold the illusive "button N" for 5 seconds and get three beebs.
I have gone through this procedure countless times.
Tell me how to make the thing work PLEASE - before I go mad, thank you.
and last grumbles - product knowledge by resellers (amazon are only fulfilling) is poor to non exsistant.
The instructions, whilst at least being readable English - DO NOT TELL YOU ANY OF THIS.
The power button is very difficult to activate - have to push quite hard, button "N" even more so as the camera doesn't give any indication that you have succesfully pushed it until you release it!
and lastly I read now that i'm only going to be able to set the shot up on the iPhone.
This is a well built, good looking product, with very poor functionality - I don't have a degree in IT - I like things to just work, like all Apple products do.
Thank you- view 11 more comments

I haven't changed over phones yet.

Hi Graham,
From what we are finding iOS5 is not being 100% reliable with our current version of the App no matter the device, hence the App being modified to make sure that it is 100% reliable with iOS5. However if yours is working ok, then you may have the one!

Hi!
I recently got a Contour GPS, and want to connect it to my LG Optimus 3D device.
I have updated the firmware, got a bt.adr file from storyteller, sucessfully paired the camera with my device, restarted my phone, restarted the app many times, and all I get when I start it is an error message that says unable to connect. This happens all the time, and yes the camera is in bluetooth discovery mode.

Hi Trym,
Ok , I have had a word with the engineers and it seems that for some reason the LG Android devices are being somewhat troublesome with the connection and operation of the App. They are looking into it , but are presently running up against a brick wall. I will let you know when we have a better answer for this.

Hi TopDogRacing,
Not at the moment as it is going through the QA testing procedures. As soon as they are happy it's working as it should , then it will be released. Sorry I cannot give a definitive date, as I have been bitten by dates before and you can guarantee if I say a certain date , the QA dept will find something that would put it back a week or two. I hope you understand.

I have a prob with connecting mob to contour +.
can it be prob when i connect the camera to another iphone then mine?
does it change the adress?
Adam-
Hi Adam,
Make sure that the other iPhone has its Bluetooth disabled or the camera will connect to that one in preference to the one you desire to use. The Address of the camera stays the same, which means you can connect to multiple devices, you just have to make sure that the one being used is the only one with Bluetooth enabled. I hope that helps.

I can not get my new ContourGPS to enable the bluetooth device. The camera and the Connect View Card are new, and I followed all the instructions. The "blue LED" never comes on after holding the hidden button down for 5 seconds. It just continues to blink "green" and gives me a 3-beep tone. Do I have a bad View Card? This is my second one.... very frustrated.

Hi eriksbox,
Have you connected the camera to Storyteller so that it can be given its bluetooth address? If not, connect the camera to the computer and open storyteller, leave for a few minutes and eject the camera. This will install a Bluetooth address on the camera and allow the connection. I hope that helps, let me know how you get on.

Hi.
Sorry for asking this again, but i want to be sure before i buy ContourGPS. The reseller specs says that it has a built-in bluetooth v2.1. In Contour web pages http://contour.com/software/mobile/ov... is text:
"The ContourGPS and Contour+ have a built-in Bluetooth® chip that works with the new iOS or Android Contour app to enable your phone to become a wireless viewfinder."
BUT in the bottom of the page is a mention:
"BLUETOOTH® ON iOS - The ContourGPS camera requires the Contour Connect View Card to connect with a supported Apple iOS device."
I have iPhone 4 (iOS5), so does the built-in bluetooth work with my iPhone, or do i need a connect view card?- view 1 more comment

Ok, thanks for fast reply. Yep, i noticed the iOS5 incompatible issue, but i belive that the update will be there soon. So, how about with android-phone? That dont need connect view card, if i understod that right..? My friend has a an android-phone, so we can use it for now..
Is the built-in bluetooth support coming in iPhone, and if so, is there any idea when it would be ready..? If not, is the problem apple's policy and/or hardware? -
-
Hi eizii,
Yes, you are correct , the Android devices don't need to have the Connect view card in the camera to communicate correctly. The iOS devices require the Connect View card in the camera to communicate correctly with the iOS device.

Dave. -

I upgraded to the latest firmware and iOS5 app, but my connection still lasts only about 2 seconds. It is easier to to eyeball the angle once mounted and then trial and error. Between this issue and the unusable video due to the vented helmet mount not being solid, it is my second favorite POV camera.

Would like to mount camera remotely and select Position and Start/ Stop recording from phone - please. Not fully tested but battery seems to last on Bluetooth not recording for hours. So could be a useful remote camera on a wingtip of a glider etc. Currently battery and memory is wasted before we get to what we want to take.
Great camera with bluetooth, GPS, HD,and waterproof housing.
Thanks, Rob
Sadly the remote start stop idea is not possible with using the Bluetooth link ,due to the physical requirements of the record switch.
Cheers,
Dave.
Sadly the Contour camera apps are only available for iOS devices and Android OS devices, we currently do not support connecting to Blackberrys.
Cheers,
Dave.
The iPhone app just won't find the camera no matter how many times I try, bluetooth on of course.
I've just paid £30 for something that really does not seem to be the final product. Also I just wanted to make a comment about your product page, it is very misleading as it is not straight forward to realise that for the Contour GPS you still need to by the extra card.
Cheers
Have you tried power cycling your iPhone? If not I would suggest that you try that as well as power cycling the camera as well , as we have found this to be of benefit in these instances. Let me know how you get on.
