Problems with New Contour GPS:
-1- recorded file is purple
-2- battery runs down within 30 minutes
-3- software does not see the cam
The new Contour GPS is not detected by the Contour software on my Mac. I have several Vholdrs and Contours and know how it should work. I have the latest software and I recorded clips. Still the Easy Edit software does 'see' the cam.
-
I discovered that there is a new firmware update. On the cam there 1.02 and 1.07 is the latest. In addition I found the Easy Edit (the downloadable software) does not work with the Contour GPS out-of-the-box condition.
Downloading new firmware + updating cam + installing StoryTeller software solved the problem.
Only problem now
- poor battery life
- no clip with GPS info; how much time does the GPS chip need to get on track? -

Yeah GPS lock depends on clear skies and no buildings obstructing the surrounding sky.
The green light at the front of the camera needs to stop flashing. Flashing means it is searching, solid means it has GPS link.
Maybe you need to put the camera on charge over night and try again tomorrow. You may have a bad battery. That is rare. -

Hi there all,
We have found during testing that gps lock will occur on average in about 30 seconds from "cold" i.e. the first time its used in a day and there after around 10 seconds to achieve during the day. These are the things that can effect the lock, low battery, storms, indoors, in an area of tall buildings and if you start the camera in a moving vehicle. Cavman could be right if you have a suspect battery then that would also cause it to take a while . Let me know how you get on? Cheers,
Dave. -

i have the same question. No GPS fix after 30min outside. And the battery is good. Which solution ?
-
-
OK.
Obtaining GPS lock or fix the first time should take somewhere between 3 and 10 minutes. However, you need an unobstructed horizon to get a good fix. In the city (urban canyons) with tall buildings, heavy tree canopies, indoors, parking garages, heavy precipitation - all of these will negatively impact that cameras ability to get a lock. Low battery will definitely deter the cameras ability to get a GPS fix as well. After the camera learns where it is, it will have a better idea of where to look for satellites the next time it powers up and obtaining a fix should be quicker - assuming the camera does not move too far between power-ups.
If you can not get a lock within 30 minutes in a wide open space, please contact support. We will need to see what we can do to fix the camera - or get you a new one.

Good productidea, poor product!
Crappy battery.
Crappy software and- upgrade/possibility/routine
Feels like I ́m pranked...-
Hi lacks,
Yes we admit we have had a few teething troubles, but they are being fixed as and when they are discovered. We have a new firmware being developed to sort out the issues that we have been made aware of and Storyteller is evolving quicker than we could ever have hoped for thanks to the software development team. As for the battery and its life, well we are somewhat restricted by battery technology and the demands that the camera can put on the existing batteries. As always though we are investigating ways to lengthen the life of the batteries when using the GPS feature. If you have any particular concerns I would encourage you to contact myself, david@contour.com or Keith keith@contour.com , and we would be more than happy to discus things with you.
Cheers,
Dave. -

I actually have the same problems on my non-GPS unit. In one instance, after a somewhat-hard landing midway through the recording the color got corrected.
Also, regarding the Easy Edit software, I have the latest software and I recorded clips and was able to get to the 'upload' window the first time around, but every time since the Easy Edit software is only bringing up the settings window, not the library.
Has anyone else encountered/fixed either of the above?- view 1 more comment

I have seen all of the above listed problems in my GPS unit (model 1400 version 1.0) as well. Is this something particular to the newer version?
Sometimes the two laser light will be ON and would never go away. This is only resolved after the battery is completely taken out. Is there a reason for it?
With a fully charged battery, I was also not able to turn on the camera on the chairlift. This happened at -1 C, so I wasn't sure if the battery was dead or not. When I came home the camera beeped and showed "Green" for the record status - Not sure what exactly happened.- view 2 more comments

You can say there are problems... I am very disappointed with this product. I have had this camera for 2 months. I just returned from a 1430 mile motorcycle round trip to Death Valley CA with not much video to show for it. Multiple booting errors AND recording errors. To this point in product development, this is not a plug & play product.

Hi CBriggs,
We do put up our hands and admit when something went awry and we do when it comes to the recent shenanigans with the FW on the CGPS. Our engineers have been working hard to get everything working correctly with the FW and it seems that with the beta testing that this has finally been cracked. Some times things do go wrong and it clearly has , however we have made headways and are getting there with this. We are sorry that you feel let down by us and our product, but we will make sure that you are supported by us and restore your faith in the product.
Cheers,
Dave. -

Hi cmitchell,
Can you give me a bit more info please. What card are you using, has it been formatted (if so how) and lastly what version of firmware has the camera got installed on it? Let me know.

how can I adjust audio value up and control wind noise down on my gps contour video camera pleas tell me soon
-

Hi bilhan,
You can either use storyteller or you can manually adjust the FW_RTC file on the card in the camera. The easiest way will be to use storyteller though. Plug the camera into your computer and then open storyteller. You will see an icon of your camera in the top left of the screen in the side bar, click on that and then select from the tool bar at the top of the screen "tools" and from the drop down menu select Configure camera. This will open the utility to be able to adjust your cameras settings , including the mic level. I hope that helps.
Cheers,
Dave. -

I'm thankful for the great support that Contour has provided but after experiencing problems with not only my initial camera but the replacement as well I have given up. I purchased 2 Go Pro cameras and was recording right out of the box with ZERO issues. The Contour products are simply not ready for market. Thanks for trying.
